SSC Signature Resize (10–20 KB) and Photo Rules for 2026
SSC’s 2026 CGL, CHSL, JE and SI/CAPF notices ask for a 10–20 KB JPG signature. For these applications, the application module (on ssc.gov.in or in the mySSC app) captures your photo live with your device camera.
or drop it here, or paste with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC (iPhone).
How to make your SSC signature file
- Sign generously on white paper with a dark pen. Give the camera enough detail to record every stroke.
- Photograph the sheet or scan it. Open that image in the tool above.
- The SSC settings already select 6 × 2 cm and 10–20 KB. White edges preserve the writing when its proportions differ.
- Examine the processed preview for missing marks, faint lines or writing that looks too small. Adjust the source or settings if needed.
- Download the JPG, then select that saved file in the checker below. Checking the original photograph would test a different file.
- When attaching the result to your application, inspect the signature again in the portal’s preview before continuing.
Check your downloaded signature
These checks compare the file with the numbers printed in SSC’s 2026 notices (CGL, CHSL, JE, SI/CAPF). Passing them does not mean the SSC portal will accept the file; the portal and your notice decide.

SSC photo: captured live, not uploaded
In the CGL, CHSL, JE and SI/CAPF 2026 applications, the application module (on ssc.gov.in or in the mySSC app) captures your photo live with your device camera. You do not need an existing passport photo for this step, and cannot substitute a resized photo upload. These four notices say that photographing an existing photograph leads to rejection, with an exception for Aadhaar-authenticated candidates: all four say they will not be rejected for non-compliant photographs or signatures.
- Choose good lighting and a plain background.
- Keep the camera at eye level. Face it directly and look into the lens.
- Place your entire face inside the frame, neither too close nor too far away.
- Remove caps, masks and glasses for the capture.
SI/CAPF Annex II-D lists rejection reasons: a background that is not plain, a cap, no upper garment, poor brightness and blur. Annex II-E shows acceptable and unacceptable photo examples. Check the surroundings as well as your face before taking the picture.
Many resizer sites still offer an SSC photo preset of 20–50 KB. These 2026 notices give no photo file size, dimensions or format. That preset does not describe the live capture requirement.
All four 2026 notices ask candidates to bring two recent colour passport size photographs and an original photo ID to the examination centre (for example, CHSL page 35). Aadhaar-authenticated candidates are exempt from bringing both. Those are printed photographs; the notices give no dimensions. For another exam that actually requests a photo upload, compress image to 50 KB offers a 3.5 × 4.5 cm passport size preset.

6 × 2 cm or 4 × 2 cm?
The main signature paragraphs in these four 2026 notices use about 6.0 × 2.0 cm. CGL, CHSL and SI/CAPF give about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in their application instructions; JE only gives 6 × 2 cm. Both measurements are approximate. None of these notices assigns pixels or DPI to the signature.
With this tool’s 200 DPI setting, 6 × 2 cm becomes 472 × 157 pixels, and 4 × 2 cm becomes 315 × 157 pixels. These are conversions for preparing an image. The corresponding shapes are 3:1 and 2:1, which the checker compares with the JPEG’s dimensions after applying its EXIF orientation.
Check before you upload
The checker reads the file header and filename, its exact byte count, and JPEG dimensions and EXIF orientation. Both JPEG content and a .jpg or .jpeg extension pass the format check. JPEG content with another extension gets a rename warning; another format fails.
A byte count from 10,240 to 20,000 fits 10–20 KB whether a KB means 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Meeting only one definition gets a warning. A shape within ±10% of either ratio passes this tool’s guideline; a different ratio gets a warning because these four notices say “about”. That tolerance is a tool guideline, not a rule in these notices.
Background whiteness, readable strokes and miniature writing are left for your own inspection. The checker does not assess them with an algorithm. Its results cannot guarantee portal acceptance.
All four 2026 notices provide an Aadhaar exception (for example, CHSL page 11): Aadhaar-authenticated candidates will not be rejected for non-compliant photographs or signatures. Preparing files to the stated specifications is still advisable.
For other examinations and details of the cleaning controls, see signature resize. The increase image size in KB guide explains how adding comment bytes can help a signature below 10 KB.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SSC signature size in KB?
The main signature paragraphs in the CGL, CHSL, JE and SI/CAPF 2026 notices specify 10–20 KB. CGL and CHSL write JPEG/JPG; JE and SI/CAPF write JPEG. This page targets that interval under both common KB definitions.
Do I need to resize my photo for SSC?
No. For the CGL, CHSL, JE and SI/CAPF 2026 applications, the application module (on ssc.gov.in or in the mySSC app) captures your photo live with your device camera. There is no prepared photo file to resize and upload.
Which is right, 6 × 2 cm or 4 × 2 cm?
The main signature paragraphs in these four 2026 notices say about 6 × 2 cm. CGL, CHSL and SI/CAPF also give about 4 × 2 cm in their application instructions; JE only gives 6 × 2 cm. Both shortcuts are available because the published wording differs; follow the notice and instructions for your application.
How many pixels is 6 × 2 cm?
Using 200 DPI gives 472 × 157 pixels. Using 300 DPI gives 709 × 236 pixels. These are rounded conversions, not official SSC pixel dimensions: the notices specify neither pixels nor DPI.
Why is my SSC signature under 10 KB?
Simple pen strokes surrounded by blank paper compress very efficiently. The resizer can add empty comment bytes to reach the 10 KB floor while leaving the decoded image intact. Adding bytes does not make faint or tiny handwriting clearer.
Can I upload a scanned old photo for SSC?
No. In the CGL, CHSL, JE and SI/CAPF 2026 applications, live capture must photograph you, not an existing photograph. These notices warn that photographing an old photo leads to rejection, with an exception in all four for Aadhaar-authenticated candidates: they will not be rejected for non-compliant photographs or signatures. A scan or resized copy is not a replacement for live capture.
